Finish and fittings

  • Fully centrally air conditioned
  • High-speed fibre optic wifi, included
  • Smart TV
  • Floor-to-ceiling curtains and modern furniture throughout
  • Double glazing — the reason it stays quiet inside
  • Ground-floor parking with a level route into the lobby lift
  • The more generous room sizes — noticeably larger bedrooms.

Rabwa is on a quiet side road and stays peaceful day and night. Double glazing throughout, as at Iskan.

About 6 km from the Haram — 15–25 minutes by car, depending on the route and the time of day. The drop-off you want is the King Fahd Tunnel entrance, where an escalator brings you up onto the campus beside Gate 79.

Read the full route, including what to do when a driver refuses it — it happens more often than anyone admits.

Check-in from 3pm. Check-out by 11am. Those four hours are the whole window we have to clean and prepare the apartment for whoever arrives next, and on a flat with four or five bedrooms it takes all of it. If you need to leave later, ask us the day before rather than on the morning — we will look at the calendar and tell you honestly. When nobody is arriving that day, the answer is usually yes.

Where we are

6–7 km from Masjid al-Haram — a 15 to 20 minute cab ride

This is the first thing everyone asks, so here it is plainly. Our two buildings sit in a quiet residential neighbourhood, not in the hotel district. A cab takes 15–20 minutes even with traffic, and longer at peak times during Ramadan and Hajj.

That is comparable to the walk from many hotels closer in — without the walk. Which matters if you are travelling with children, with parents, or simply intend to make the journey five times a day.

  • ✓Dropped at the gates. Ask for the King Fahd Tunnel entrance — the escalator brings you up beside Gate 79.
  • ✓Uber, Careem and Jeeny all serve the area, at any hour. Jeeny is the local app and often the cheapest.
  • ✓Far more space for the money than a room in the Haram district — whole apartments, not a room each.
  • ✓Quiet. You come back to a residential street rather than a lobby, and sleep before the next early start.
The buildings

Modern buildings, a lift, and parking underneath

After the distance, this is what people ask about most — how old the building is, whether there is a lift, and what you can see from it. Photographs answer that better than we can.

Purpose-built, under four years old
The Iskan buildingPurpose-built, under four years old

This is the building, photographed from the street. It was finished less than four years ago and is residential rather than converted — which is the honest answer to the question we are asked most after the distance one.

A lift to every floor
Getting upstairsA lift to every floor

You will not be carrying suitcases up stairs after a night flight, and you will not be doing it again at 4am on the way to Fajr. The lift runs from the parking level to the top floor.

Covered parking underneath
Arriving by carCovered parking underneath

Park on the ground floor and come up in the lift. A door leads from the car park straight into the lobby where the lift is — no steps, about twenty to thirty feet. That matters if anyone in your group uses a wheelchair or cannot manage stairs. In summer it also means the car is out of the sun and you are out of the heat within a minute.

The second building, two minutes away
The Rabwa buildingThe second building, two minutes away

Our other address sits in the same neighbourhood, a two minute drive from the first. Same arrangement: lift, covered parking, a residential street rather than a hotel strip.

The Clock Tower, from the street outside
The viewThe Clock Tower, from the street outside

Taken from the pavement in front of the building. The Royal Clock Tower stands over the Haram, so this is the direction you travel every time you go — and it is visible from some of the apartment windows too.

The same view after dark

The tower is lit through the night. Guests tell us this is the moment the trip starts to feel real — walking out of the door and seeing it there.

A park at the end of the street
Thirty seconds awayA park at the end of the street

Shaded seating, grass and playground equipment, thirty seconds from the door. Somewhere for children to be children after a long day, and somewhere to sit in the evening that is not a hotel lobby.

Mat’am Al-Hidaya Al-Bukhari
One minute awayMat’am Al-Hidaya Al-Bukhari

The restaurant a minute from the door — traditional Saudi chicken and rice, and the Al Faham is what to order. A local place rather than one that exists for visitors.

Getting to the Haram

About 6 km from the Haram — 15–25 minutes by car, depending on the route and the time of day.

01Ask for the King Fahd Tunnel entrance

This is the drop-off you want. Off-peak it is about 15 minutes door to door.

02Take the escalator up

From the tunnel entrance an escalator brings you up onto the main campus.

03You arrive beside Gate 79

The escalator comes out very close to Gate 79, already inside the campus.

04Coming back

Return the same way. Save the tunnel entrance on your phone before you set off.

What often happens instead — and why it is not a trick

At peak times many drivers will not take the tunnel entrance. They will drop you at a different gate, outside the campus, which leaves you a walk to get in. If you ask why, you will usually be told the road is closed. Sometimes it is. Often it is simply that the tunnel is congested and leaving it costs the driver twenty minutes.

Most drivers speak little English, so there is rarely a way to discuss it in the moment. We would rather you heard this from us now than decided later that we had described the journey dishonestly. The Haram campus is enormous and has many entrances; arriving at a different one is normal, not a sign that anything has gone wrong.

Show the driver this before you set off. It removes the conversation entirely.

Why the distance looks different on Google Maps

Airbnb measures in a straight line. Google Maps measures along the roads, and the roads here do not run straight. The same journey can read as 3 km on one and 6 km on the other. Both are correct; only one of them is a journey you can take. We quote the driving figure.
